I believe, it's a question of attitude, or character. Focus on the areas of output and relationships is the key determiner of change, and that makes it a leadership issue. More consideration needs to be given to output and relationship quality at all levels, whether it's an individual, corporate body, or the industry as a whole. Better ways lead to better results. It really is that simple.

If you look carefully, you can see the pattern of product and relationships mirrored in games, developers, and the media, and at all levels, from the individual to the industry as a whole. What is true for the small thing in one place is true for the big thing in another place. By opening your eyes to what’s around you, or the elements within a game, you give yourself an opportunity to learn, change, and create from a bigger reservoir.

There’s a place for simple and colourful gameplay, as much as there is for the more sophisticated variety, and for the developer who grasps this, the market is an open door waiting to be stepped through. In spite of more intelligently crafted games being on the margins of attention, more thoughtfully pitched games will expand the range and flexibility of the market. In time, a critical mass will be achieved and creativity will naturally flow.

Now, where’s my book deal? :pAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6093379.post-1133969750145096372005-12-07T15:35:00.000+00:002005-12-07T15:35:00.000+00:00I want some of what Charles is having.Of course th...I want some of what Charles is having.

Of course that said, I totally agree with him. The last thing that I feel we're facing is a reformation. For some reason I can't help but feel an impending culmination of many smaller events and ideas (some being yours, Tadhg,) that I feel could indeed push us over the cusp that I feel we're on and into either a revolution or a true renaissance.

Hell, if the revolutionaries are right, one may even lead into the other.Jeffoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13535815916014632731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6093379.post-1133960665215925382005-12-07T13:04:00.000+00:002005-12-07T13:04:00.000+00:00Your topic is neatly constructed and poses an inte...Your topic is neatly constructed and poses an interesting question, but is a sideshow to changes in the wider society. During the last British General election, I wrote to the main candidates in my constituency, and gave them an outline of what I was looking for in the successful candidate. What looked like a wish list is, now, emerging as mainstream thought.

Several years ago, I predicted a new golden age for gaming and was, quite frankly, laughed at. Every indicator assumed the worst. However, I took a more structural view. Too much money, inexperience, and impatience had made games decadent, but as these lessons were absorbed by a maturing development, media, and gaming community, positive change would naturally occur in its own time.

The lesson here and, I think, it's an interesting one, is that we're all swimming is the same stream. Politicians and peoples, developers and customers, are all playing their part in change. It's not that the world has changed. Our perceptions have changed. The knowledge of the past, experience, and values, remain the same, but we're moving out of more difficult times.

Stop worrying. All is well. As the song says...

Standing at the crossroads
trying to read the signs
To tell me which way I should
go to find the answer
And all the time I know

Plant your love and let it grow.

Let it grow
let it grow

Let it blossom
let it flowAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
